(Scroll down for the English Version) Gehört ihr zu denen, die an jedem Jahresanfang ehrgeizige Pläne machen?

Was macht man also sowieso schon, was man optimieren möchte, z.B..

English: New Year’s resolutions 2024

Are you one of those people who make ambitious plans at the beginning of every year? Do you list good resolutions and define different goals in all areas of life that you want to achieve in the new year? … We used to be one of those people too. But that has changed dramatically since 2020, when the pandemic hit. Back then, we had planned 2020 out (and even visualized it!) – only to see one plan after the other fail … that was a crazy experience! Because for the first time, the plans didn’t fail „because of us“ or a lack of discipline, but more or less everything we had planned was canceled „from the outside“! … Well, everyday life in the self-employed, creative service business (with a child) has never been particularly easy to plan, but Corona was a whole different ball game.

After this extreme experience, we started our professional restructuring in 2021 and since then we have been „planning“ completely differently. More along the lines of „what really always works“ – even when you can’t or aren’t allowed to do anything else. So what do you already do anyway that you want to optimize, for example? And also only focus on one important (life-improving) main goal or project instead of many different ones. Because if everything is important, nothing is important … It also helps to lower your overall expectations to zero, then you’ll be all the happier when things work out ^^

At the moment, we see goals more as guiding stars than as concrete plans. Simply because the effort of retraining doesn’t fit in with our current life situation. But you still need to know where you want to go and have a rough direction. And the power of goal setting should not be underestimated, because goals can be incredibly motivating. And motivation is important, especially when life is difficult! What else do you get out of bed for every morning …? So you also need goals that simply make you happy. 😀

Our main goal for 2024 is therefore simply to complete our retraining. It’s exhausting enough to do this alongside our normal work and family life. That’s why we have a „counterbalancing goal“ that makes us happy – pursuing our hobbies! 😀

And to make sure we actually do this, we use trackers. Timo uses an app for this, but Stew prefers analog, so we designed this A4 list to track comic reading. And because sharing a hobby is a joy, you can download our comic tracker as a free PDF here for your personal use (in German, English and an neutral version)!
